All four Gospels tell how Jesus gathered the first disciples, and they do not agree about where or when. John places a first meeting by the Jordan; the Synoptics begin at the lakeside.

Matthew’s calling of fishermen beside the Sea of Galilee corresponds to Luke’s setting of the miraculous catch and call beside the lake.

Mark 1:16-20 and Luke 5:1-11
Both are the calling of Simon and his partners by the lake, ending with them leaving the boats to follow. The scenes differ materially: Mark has the call beside the nets, Luke sets it after the great catch of fish.
