Rabanus Maurus

Rabanus Maurus was a Benedictine monk, abbot of Fulda, archbishop of Mainz, teacher, poet, and biblical commentator. Often called the “teacher of Germany,” he helped transmit patristic learning within the Carolingian world. His commentaries compile and organize earlier authorities, especially Jerome, Augustine, Gregory, and Bede. He also wrote encyclopedic, educational, liturgical, and pastoral works.
